Staying healthy in a global pandemic

This year has been hugely impacted by the current global pandemic. While millions across the world are being encouraged to stay home more, there is a concern that a more sedentary lifestyle will become the norm. So, how can we look after our physical and mental health in a time when it’s not so easy to get out and do the things we used to?

Sleep well – Many of us will have had our regular routines disrupted and with many working from home, it can be easy to slip into a pattern of staying up too late and maybe lying in a little longer. As people might not be as active, good sleep can be harder to achieve. Try to stick to a normal routine, even if schools are shut or you are working from home. Try to include some daily exercise and aim for between 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

Exercise – If the gyms and pools in your area are closed, you might need to get creative. Walking or jogging is a good option and aerobic workouts can be done at home. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as it raises your heart rate!

Your body – Just because it seems the world is focused on Covid-19 right now, you still need to take care of other aspects of your health. You can get regular medication delivered to you by signing up to one of the many services available and don’t neglect your sexual health either. Eat well – Being stuck at home can become monotonous, with the temptation to order in takeaway or snack just because you’re bored. Try to boost your immune system by eating nutritious meals and avoid emotional eating where possible.
