How clean is your office?

The office is often a hive of activity, and with that comes a different kind of activity – GERMS!

Here are the areas of your office that are most likely to be contaminated with germs, other than the obvious toilet facilities:

  • Computer mouse – In some cases, it has been suggested that the mouse on a computer is just as dirty as a mammalian mouse. The computer mouse is one of the most frequently used items in our office, yet is often forgotten when we are trying to clean up.

  • Coffee pots, drinks machines and vending machines: The hands and fingers touching the coffee pots or drinks machines every day are numerous. It is safe to assume that not all hands will be clean. A recent survey conducted by Mashable found that 48% of coffee machines had bacteria on the surface that could be considered harmful.
  • Computer keyboard- similar to the computer mouse, this is an area of high germ activity. It is not surprising that the keyboard is high on the list of germs because your hands are constantly touching the keys, and food crumbs get stuck between the letters. • Taps – The problem with taps is you can’t turn them on with clean hands. This is where sensor taps come in handy. As you finish your bathroom visit and turn on the tap, the germs that you brought from the toilet are transferred onto the tap. After washing your hands for a minute, you touch the tap to turn it off again. This will transfer your germs onto your hands. It’s a bit frustrating, isn’t it? The survey found that 75% of taps contain enough bacteria to make you sick.
