Trees to Look out for in the Autumn

Autumn is a great time of the year to enjoy our native trees – they put on a spectacular show that we can all enjoy during the autumn. Many people like the idea of having trees in their garden to enjoy too, especially at this time of the year, but it is always a good idea to seek the help of a professional like Geoffrey Urch Tree Surgeon Gloucester if you are wanting to maintain your garden trees.

At this time of year, heading into the ancient woodlands to see Britain’s native trees is a real treat – here are some of the trees to look out for on your autumn walks…

Alder Buckthorn – In the autumn, these are most easily recognised by the small berries, which are a deep purple by early autumn. You will often find this as part of a hedgerow, and you may also spot thrushes nearby as the berries are a favourite food of theirs.

Rowan – Also known as mountain ash, this tree stands out in the late summer and early autumn due to its clusters of red berries. It is also a popular garden tree if you are looking for a tree to have in the garden, and legend has it that planting a Rowan tree near your home protects you from evil.

Oak – England’s favourite tree, and the sacred tree of the druids, the majestic oak turns a splendid gold in the autumn months, and also produces acorns, which fall to the grown in the autumn, ready for new oaks to grow from in the spring.
